# Addiction is a progressive narrowing Addiction is a progressive narrowing of the things that give you pleasure, and at its core an illusion of invulnerability; vulnerability is its opposite and its exit. Consuming a thing without letting it consume you requires exactly the openness addiction forecloses. # Attune The dynamic face of the ground. The ground is what is most real; attune is how a life comes to be held by it: to see the real, be changed by it, order the world to it, and so see further. Not a framework we built but the underlying pattern of attunement, the static ground made living, as the Name is being-as-becoming. Three movements turn it. - **claims** — what is real lays a claim on you; to see is already to be addressed, so the response is evoked, not chosen in a vacuum. - **overflows** — being changed does not stay private; theosis overflows into the ordering of the world. - **discloses** — right relation clears the sight. You are given more of the real by becoming and by ordering, not by reasoning. Becoming itself loops back to seeing, not only by way of order. Three stations hold between them: **See the real** (contemplation, where the live questions sit), **Become** (theosis, run as practices), **Order** (the Kingdom, a life worthy of the King). # Authenticity is purposeful ritual, not improvisation The modern equation of authenticity with improvisation and idiosyncrasy is backwards. Everything done with a purpose is already a ritual, since purpose demands an order of behaviour aimed at it; when people bind together for a common purpose the rhythm compresses, and liturgy is the highest contraction of that universal pattern. True authenticity is disciplined alignment with an order higher than the self, training attention rather than seeking entertainment; the self-made ritual of the rebellious spirit is self-expression mistaken for depth. # Belonging is being known, not knowing The question at the last is not what you knew of God or did in his name, but whether he knew you. Scripture keeps reversing the direction we assume: not that we have come to know God, but to be known by him; before I formed you in the womb I knew you. The ground of belonging is not our knowledge of him, vast and even miraculous as it can be, but his knowing of us, begun and held from his side. Provenance: the New Testament's own reversal (Galatians 4:9, 1 Corinthians 8:3, Matthew 7:23), where ginōskō carries the covenant Hebrew yada; a long-held reading (Packer, Knowing God). # Care organises facts "Facts don't care about your feelings" inverts the actual relation. You cannot encounter a fact without a purpose that makes it visible: the firefighter sees exits, the thief sees valuables, the friend sees the family photos — each perceives *truly*, but care determines which truths appear. Purpose is not a bias overlaid on neutral data; it is the organ of perception itself. Every act of attention is an act of love or fear, and the hierarchy of facts that results is real, not projected. This is why stories — which organise facts toward purposes and compress them into patterns of coherence — are not decorations on top of science but the deeper grammar that makes science (and every other structured inquiry) possible. The iterative retelling of myths is a selection process: what survives is what humans *care about*, and what humans care about is the structure of reality as it meets consciousness. Provenance: the firefighter/thief/friend example and the "facts don't care about your feelings" inversion are Pageau's; the connection to narrative knowing draws on Tolkien's applicability. # Causal intuition precedes causal formalism Do-calculus was not invented and then found to match reality; it formalised something humans already sensed. We know, before calculation, that a drug cannot be good for men, good for women, and bad for people overall, even if classical logic struggles to say why. The formalism vindicates the intuition rather than producing it. Causal reasoning, then, is not an add-on to thought but part of its load-bearing structure. The architecture under the whole vision, worked out in one sitting. It is meant to be lean. Nothing here is a new doctrine; it is the shape the existing convictions were already making. ## The keystone Reality is not flat, a bare yes or no of existence. It is a depth, and the measure of the depth is **holding**: a thing is real in the degree that it holds, in what depends on it, what it carries, what would fall if it gave way. Not force but bearing. A pebble pushes and is pushed and holds nothing; a covenant holds a life. The test is physical: you can lean your weight on the real, and you fall through the rest. ## The ground (static) Follow holding upward. Each real thing rests on something more real that holds it, and that on something more real again. The summit is the one that holds all and is held by nothing, on which everything depends and which depends on none. When the real reaches that summit it speaks its own name, Ehyeh asher ehyeh, I will be what I will be: not a being among beings but being itself, and being as living and still to come, not a substance fixed in place. So the ground of all things is not a thing but someone who holds. And because holding is relation, the floor of reality is relational, not material: to be is to be in relation. This is the relational imperative read all the way down, the grain of being. These few claims are the ground, a tiny sacred set, and their leaning terminates at aseity. They hold each other; their base is the self-existent. ## Attune (dynamic) The ground is what is most real; attune is how a life comes to be held by it. It turns through three stations, See the real (contemplation), Become (theosis, the inner work), Order (the Kingdom, the outer work), by three movements: - **claims** — what is real lays a claim on you; to see is already to be addressed, so the response is evoked, not chosen in a vacuum. - **overflows** — being changed does not stay private; theosis overflows into the ordering of the world. - **discloses** — right relation clears the sight; you are given more of the real by becoming and by ordering, not by reasoning. Becoming itself loops back to seeing, not only by way of order. The ground holds, therefore it draws. Holding seen still is the keystone; holding seen moving is attune. So the loop is not a flat circle but a spiral drawn inward, deepening toward union; the telos is rest at the centre. And it can break. Each movement has a failure: seeing that never becomes (information without transformation), becoming that never overflows (interiority hoarded), ordering that never sees (activism untethered from the real). The map is therefore a diagnostic: where is the loop broken, in a person, a church, a movement. ## The fractal of loops There is not one attune loop. Every key relationship is its own loop, because the unit of attunement is the relationship, not the lone self; you are on both sides of each. And each relationship reveals the ground, since the ground is relational and you meet the one who holds in the face of the other. The many loops are the many faces of the one ground. They nest, self within family within church within society, scale-free, exactly as the relational imperative does. A life is its loops. This is why attune did not need restating as a fractal: the relational imperative already carries it. Reality is relational, therefore the loop runs in every relationship, therefore a life is a fractal of loops resting on the ground. ## The four faces The one form shows up four ways: - **law** — the relational imperative, what is true of all relating. - **living** — a life, its key relationships turning. - **knowing** — between, the vault, relata and relations. - **doing** — Dovetail, the relationships operated and surfaced when they matter. A dovetail joint is two distinct pieces made one without either lost; the name was always the doing. The personal OS is knowing and doing, between and Dovetail, under the one law, in service of one life. ## The kinds and the measure The authored kinds: ground, attune, questions, zettels, illustrations, structures, essays, practices. - **Claims layer:** questions, zettels, illustrations. Convictions are not a separate kind but a cross-cutting band over all three, the load-bearing high region, surfaced by holding and recomputed as the corpus grows. - **Composition layer (pull from below into a narrative for action):** structures (conceptual), essays (written), practices (enacted). Direct kind-to-mode pairing. - **The measure:** holding is the transitive load over `Rests on:` edges, counted in the depended-upon direction. It ranks convictions, and it vets practices: a practice is worthy in the degree that what it rests on holds. Do not stake a discipline on what will not bear it. Retired along the way: "floor" (absorbed into the ground), "circuit" (renamed attune), "re-enchantment" (it was only ever the name of attune in motion).

# Heresy is selection, not fabrication The Greek *hairesis* means "to choose, to select." A heresy is not an invention or a fantasy; it is a *partial truth promoted to the whole*. The heretic sees something real — the danger is not that the seeing is false but that the selection is insufficient, and the part is mistaken for the total picture. This is why heresies are so durable: they carry genuine insight. Orthodoxy is not the opposite of heresy (as falsehood opposes truth) but its *completion* — the refusal to let any one selection exhaust the mystery. The structure is fractal: every reductionism, every flattening of knowing to a single mode, every "nothing but" explanation recapitulates the heretical move. Provenance: the etymology and the selection/insufficiency frame are Pageau's, drawing on the patristic tradition. To look for meaning as if it lay out there to be discovered is already to assume I stand apart from it, waiting to be joined. But the reaching is itself a relation. To want connection to something larger than myself, I must already be joined to it, or the wanting could not begin. The longing is the bond, speaking. So the search does not prove the lack. It inherits their categories, mirrors their methods, and ends up fighting for a world designed by what it hates. Real change requires more than opposition. It requires finding what is true in the other position, not to surrender to it, but to metabolise it. This is not niceness. It is structural. # Speech orders chaos from within When the biblical authors want to speak of personal presence they reach for the Ruach Elohim; when they want the move from chaos to order they reach for speech. Speaking is something internal coming out of you and impacting reality in concrete form; Wisdom (Proverbs 8) carries the same ordering role. Speech, then, is the bridge between interiority and world. This sits in deliberate tension with the separation reading of language: the same faculty that separates is the one that orders. The Genesis narrative makes the mechanism visible. God names, and the name is the creation of an identity. Then God looks at what he named and evaluates whether the actuality matches the word. Name, observe, evaluate: the three-step pattern is the scientific process in miniature. Genesis does not compete with science; it contains it, because the same faculty that speaks reality into coherence is the faculty the scientist exercises when proposing a theory and checking it against the world. # Symbols contact reality where discourse cannot The symbolic is trying to give an account of what is real; at its sharpest it is a lie that reveals a greater truth. The experience of symbolism brings you in touch with reality in a way abstract discourse never can, because a symbol is undergone rather than parsed. This is why dismantling symbols into propositions loses precisely the thing they carried. Tolkien insisted on the distinction: not allegory (this stands for that) but *applicability* — the deep structure of a story resonates with the structure of human care, and therefore finds its reflection in your life, your nation, your moment. # The cortical column and the transformer may be the same discovery The neocortex tiles one universal module, the cortical column, 150,000 times; each runs the same predictive algorithm on different data. A transformer tiles one universal module, the attention block, and stacks it; each runs the same algorithm on different tokens. The architectural rhyme is too close to ignore: both are general-purpose predictive units, replicated in parallel, whose power scales with copy count rather than structural novelty. The open fracture is embodiment. Hawkins insists the column's reference frame, its sensorimotor grounding in movement, is constitutive of intelligence, not incidental. If he is right, the transformer is an impressive but fundamentally disembodied echo of the real thing. If TRC² and the alignment empiricists are right, the reference frame is one feature the architecture can absorb, not the gap that separates imitation from understanding. The question matters for how we understand mind. If the same computational unit recurs in carbon and silicon without anyone copying it, the unit may be closer to a discovery about intelligence itself than an invention of either substrate. Our images of God mature with us, warrior to lawgiver to moral absolute to logos; that much I hold. But he claims more: that the sacred itself changes, that the divine is not a fixed ground but a process still unfolding through us. My own notes keep the gentler version. Revelation deepens under a continuity constraint; our picture of God gains resolution like a nebula brought into focus, and continuity is the test that tells deepening from replacement. Both cannot be true. Either the ground holds still and only our seeing matures, or the ground moves, and its stillness is only the slow frames of a longer film. I leave it open. # The Incarnation is the principle, not the exception Under Logos theology (John 1), the Incarnation is not a one-time divine intervention into an otherwise self-running material world. It is the *disclosure of the principle that was always operative*: the Logos through whom all things were made enters visibility, making explicit what was implicit in every act of meaning, every act of naming, every moment consciousness meets world. "The world was made through him, and the world knew him not" — the world already participates in the Logos but does not recognise it until the Incarnation names the participation. # The mind cannot conceive its own absence We can put our affairs in order, sign the will, cross every t, and still not think the thing itself: a world with us no longer in it. Set to imagine our own absence, awareness skitters across the surface and slides off. The self is the one term the mind cannot subtract, for the mind that would subtract it is the term. This is not failure of nerve but the shape of awareness, which is always leaning into a next moment it takes for granted will come. The deepest closeness keeps the distance love needs, the between across which the I and the Thou still reach.
