# The Enlightenment flattened being, knowing and intelligibility The Enlightenment worked a threefold reduction: ontology flattened to a single material level; knowing reduced to one form, the propositional (the "propositional tyranny" over procedural, perspectival and participatory knowing); and intelligibility reduced to generalisability, so only what can be abstracted and universalised counts as understood. The three reductions interlock and reinforce, forming a grammar that blinds us to the fullness of being and obscures the pathways to religio.
