grace-creates-chosen-obligation

# Grace creates chosen obligation Grace creates obligation; there is a mutuality in the gift (Bible Project, Ephesians session 14). The distinction that matters is choice: a tax is obligation without choice, a gift implies obligation with choice. The West handles compelled obligation well and chosen obligation poorly, which may be why grace reads to modern ears as either cheap (no obligation at all) or oppressive (obligation as debt).
