# The maps we build become the world The left hemisphere builds systems where the right does not; its workings elaborate over time into systematic thought, gain permanence and solidity, and become instantiated in the external world around us (McGilchrist). Our abstractions do not stay abstract: they are poured into institutions, software and cities, which then train the next generation's perception. The map has become our trap.
